There are different types of Staph, including MRSA and the type and sensitivity pattern on a culture analysis is important information at this point. Antibacterial soap for bathing is suggested.

Staph: I have found that in cases like yours a culture and sensitivity of drainage should be done. In my experience, if one is not allergic to penicillin and the culture showed no resistance to it, I found prescribing dicloxacillin for a period of 2-3 weeks was effective in stopping crops of staph infections from recurring. Discuss this with your MD.

Maybe/not: The pattern you cite suggests your treatment is not long enough to get all the germs, or you are being re-infected by a close contact. This may include a symptom free family member or animal. Some detective work would be wise. The abx use will should not matter much to your overall health over time.
