i tore my ligaments in my left ankle about a year and half ago.  the pain in the ankle is bad but the pain on the outside of my foot is unbearable. at night i cannot sleep. its like my foot is numb but there is pain.

If you have not been: to be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon you should do so. It may be a simple matter of referral to physical therapy or there may be a surgical procedure to help you. Regardless you should start with an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation.

Yes: If u sprained your ankle ligament(s)it depends on the severity of the sprain. Generally an acute more severe ankle sprain can be tx. In a cam walker for 7-10 days followed by a period of mobilization/bracing and therapy. Severe( grade3.)ankle sprains may take 4-6 wks. To heal. See your ors.

Severe: Severe in the sense that in order to disrupt both the main lateral ankle ligament (atfl) and injure the deltoid means that you almost completely dislocated your ankle.

Need to clarify: A proximal fibular fracture would be just below the knee, a distal fracture would be at or near the ankle.  The tibia is the main weight-bearing bone of the lower leg so you may need a few more weeks at least. The partial weight-bearing may also be due to the ligament injuries.
