was taking bactrim ds for 6 days for skin infection. should have been 10 days but was having side effects. doctor said i should try for 7 days if i can but 6 if it looks healed could work. ive missed three doses. can i start back and finish 4 days?

: It depends the side effects as well as how long you stopped the antibiotic. If the side effects are significant and the skin infection has improved remarkably, you should not resume it especially you already stopped for more than 3 days.

currently on bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and cephalexin for a skin infection. added advil for pain but it still hurts too much. anything stronger i can take?

Assess for abscess: Though other pain meds are available, if you just started the regimen, then you may experiencing increasing pain the day after- it's called the "antibiotic effect". This pain will decrease over the course of treatment.  Otherwise, if the infected skin is warm, red, very tender, swollen and boggy/fluctuant,  then it may be an abscess- if so, see your prescribing doctor for re-evaluation.

i have an indurated skin infection under my r breast right under the underwire of my bra, what should i do? i have already taken bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for 10 days .

See doc.: Maybe you are not infected or the organism is resistant to bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim).  Hard to say without seeing it, but indurated and breast are not two words we generally like to hear together.  See your doc again.

16month old started bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) 2 nights ago for a skin infection that might be mrsa.she had a fever last night and this morning 100.8 (armpit) ...normal?

Re-evaluate...: Follow up with your daughter's physician today and let them know that she has developed a fever after being on the antibiotics for two day.  They will want to see the area of infection and make sure that it isn't the cause and that the antibiotics don't need to be changed.  The fever could be from an unrelated viral illness, but you won't know until she is examined.

i have a red scaly patch near my groin area. i recently took bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds. could this be a fungal skin infection like a yeast infection?

Jock itch?: It could be a fungal infection, but more likely a "jock itch" than a yeast infection - and unlikely to be related to the recent course of bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). Feel free to try an otc antifungal cream, but if nothing happens, see your doctor or a dermatologist and find out what it really is.

Could be: It is not unsual to develop candida infections after antibiotics treatment especially in areas that remain moist.

No,if you catch: strep,it is easily treated with antibiotic for 10 days, and the symptoms are not usually that bad.

: This medication is commonly used for skin infections in adults and children. It is perfectly safe for use on a 2 year-old's penis. If he has a history of sensitivity to medications/substances on his skin, watch for any pain, increased swelling, or redness and contact his doctor if he develops any of that (could be increase in infection or reaction to medication).
