Blepharitis: Lids scrubs help with blepharitis, or inflammation of the eyelids. There are many ways to do it, including buying pre-packaged lid scrub wipes. I tell my patients just to put some baby shampoo on their finger tips with some tap water and gently scrub your closed eyelids along the lashes. Then rinse your closed lids with tap water.

i have a stye on each eye and a friend of mine told me to wash my eye with baby shampoo.  does that work?

Not necessarily: First find out if it is a stye (painful, infective) or a chalazion (no pain, less visible and more chronic). Stye requires local warm compresses, local and sometimes systemic antibiotics. Chalazion requires warm compresses, steroid drops and i also offer meibomian gland probing technique in some cases. In recalcitrant cases, surgical drainaige will be needed. Rule out rosacea.

hello there. i keep getting eye styes even though i wash my eyelids daily with baby shampoo and ocusoft lid scrub. i dont understand how this is happening when i have good eye hygiene. please help. appreciate in advance?

Stye: Having styes is not a hygiene problem. Your eyes or face may be colonized with staph, strep, or other bacteria, perhaps requiring antibiotic treatment. Discuss with your doctor. Good luck.

: I would never put it in eyes. If you are asking about using it to wash eye lashes or skin, I don't see a problem with it.

Accepted Answer

No: Cleaning by wiping away crusted dicharge is all that is recommended. 'pink eye' is usually a viral infection of the outer eye. It gets better on its own , usually within 1 to 2 weeks. If there is any vision loss or change call your eye professional or primary doctor immediately. Diluted baby shampoo is used for maintenance treatment of chronic eyelid coditions.

Ask an eye doc: Or a plastic surgeon what else they might try.  I might add cucumber slices - slomething cold next to your eyes will soothe them.

Inflammation of the eyelids might go down with a topical steroid cream.  Ask your eye doc.

Yes and No: At one point, it was thought that cleaning your eyelids with diluted baby shampoo was a good treatment option for blepharitis, a condition that can lead to red, irritated eyes.  However, today's thinking is that baby shampoo is not as gentle as once thought to be, and blepharitis should really be treated with otc lid scrubs.

Warm compresses: Requires many weeks, otherwise there is medicine you can take by mouth, Minocin (minocycline) or Doxycycline that also take time to resolve the style.

stye x5d was good then over the course of the day got really swollen. feels like sandpaper when i blink when i move my eye it hurts so bad i get nauseous and my eyeball is now all red hot compresses with baby shampoo no relief?

Stye:  If you are using red hot compresses - that is way too hot for the eye &amp; the delicate tissues surrounding it.   Compresses should be warm. The shampoo could also cause irritation.  At this point, it sounds like injury has occurred and medical assessment is warranted.
