Yes: Rest.
Get adequate nutrition and hydration.
Avoid any contact with cigarette smoke.
Take all your prescribed antibiotics as ordered.

Yes . . . and No.: Zinc is an important co-factor in our immune system's functioning. One study has shown that maintaining normal zinc levels led to decreased duration of pneumonia, and decreased duration of antibiotics needed to treat the pneumonia.  This does not mean that zinc supplementation will necessarily help with pneumonia recovery; but it does suggest that maintaining normal zinc levels in the body will.

Very un- Usual: To have pneumonia for six month something wrong have to be investigated to see if you complicating factors.

: Yes. But understand the limits of its effectiveness. This shot helps you develop protective antibodies to strains of bacteria that are included in the shot. It does not stop all potential germ causes of pneumonia. I do find it valuable &amp; got it myself.

1 lung is the usual: The most common forms of pneumonia in an 18 year old usually only affect one lung and most of the time, recovery is complete. Yes, pneumonia is contagious, but usually not as contagious as a cold or the flu. It depends upon type of bacteria or virus that is causing the pneumonia, but it most cases you should feel significantly better within 24-36 hours after you start the proper treatment.

Absolutely: Much depends upon their underlying conditions, the causative agent of their pneumonia, and the extent to which other organ systems may have been involved.  With the quality of U.S. Doctors and the excellence of our icus, the chances for full recovery have been remarkably enhanced.

: Test for COVID even though you had it in the past.Vaccines work well but don't necessarily stop you from getting COVID mildly again(cold-like symptoms).Be sure you've had the full vaccine series+booster.Best treatment for cold symptoms is fluids,rest, fever reducers if have fever,and sometimes an over-the-counter decongestant if you have no medical contraindications. Contact doctor if not improved

i was diagnosed with walking pneumonia with acid reflux, sinusitis, & laryngitis. what kind of recovery period am i looking at?

Highly variable: This depends upon what you are recovering from, the state of your underlying health and the cause of the 'walking' pneumonia.  The term can be interpreted in many ways, and how quickly you recover will depend upon the etiology.  If it is mycoplasma (an atypical pneumonia) that can take up to 6 weeks.  If it was a chemical pneumonia from aspiration due to reflux, correct the reflux, etc.

had pneumonia 2 years ago. in hospital 7 days. 5 in icu/ 2 in recovery. neg covid. lingering effects are cough and daily fatigue/exhaustion. i get so tired that i have to lay down almost every day. developed t2d because of inactivity gained 50 pounds?

: You say nothing about follow-up care post-hospitalization. You are overdue for a return visit to your GP for appropriate care.

my son had the worst variant of covid-19. after 11 days in hospital, we thank god he is alive. his oxygen level was 80. he had covid pneumonia. he's home with oxygen. how long is his recovery? will he ever get off of oxygen? will his lungs heal? tx?

: Am sorry to hear of your son's terrible experience.  Unfortunately, it may take months for maximal healing, and likely that exertion activities will be extremely difficult at this point.  There will be healing but not feasible to predict extent based upon your post.  Recommend a visit to a respiratory specialist.
