Confusing question: In three decades plus as a pediatrician I have never heard the term cough test applied to a girl. Some use the lay term to describe a hernia evaluation in a standing teen male, but i can not immagine anyone doing such an exam on an 8 year old girl. If a hernia is suspected in a girl it is generally higher up and can be found laying down by asking her to bear down.( found one this spring).

Brain aneurysm: Death from a ruptured brain aneurysm can occur at any age and is devastating to the friends and family due to the suddenness and loss of an often healthy person.  Furtunately, brain aneurysms are rare in children. They are generally not inherited. However, if two related family members have developed brain aneurysms then the remaining family members should be screened to avoid rupture.

No. Her MD may : prescribe Phenazopyridine at 4 mg./kg./ day divided into 3 doses, but  it can cause false results for sugar &amp; ketones in the urinalysis that the MD needs 1st.  Overweight girls get vulvitis from entrapment of urine after voiding &amp; can get a UTI from wiping back to front, leaving normal fecal bacteria to overgrow there. Have her sit backwards on the toilet to pee &amp; wipe front-to-back when done.

Hard to say: The 1st antibiotic used for an ear infection has a failure rate of 5% or more depending on which studies you read. A recheck is standard for any ear infection, but really needed when the  problem does not improve.The  ear drum and teeth also share a common nerve supply so sometimes ear pain can be a tooth/jaw issue. I would schedule a visit to sort this out.
