can an atrophic pancreas be reversed and if so how?what is an atrophic pancreas?  is it serious? i've had acute pancreatitis a quite a few times.

Unfortunately no: I would eliminate from your life whatever originally caused your pancreatitis and limit other things that could make it worse.  Certain medicines, high fat diets and alcohol are things you can do something about. Genetic causes of pancreatitis are beyond your control but limiting the above will help prevent attacks.

Talk to your doctor!: You have a complicated health history and should be following closely with a GI physician.  Talk to them!  Your symptoms can't be properly evaluated in an anonymous question format and you owe it to yourself to be completely open with your physicians about how you are feeling and your concerns.  They can't evaluate an issue that you don't share with them.

i had a whipple in 2009, for villous adenoma of the duodenum.  should i worry about my pancreas?  it is now atrophic. only head was removed.

Be thankful: You may need supplemental enzymes someday. No big deal. Glad you got the villous adenoma out. They can turn vicious.

mri w/ contrast showed: slightly atrophic pancreas with tiny cystic foci at the pancreatic tail. aside from any surgery,what can be done to eliminate cysts?

Pancreas size: Most likely 2 different machines used? Otherwise may have not been read correctly first time (or second time). Discuss these issues with your Dr.

i recently had a ct abdominal scan and it said i had some atrophic changes to my pancreas my doctor wasnt concerned. what does that mean?

: All imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, the finding is not a cause for concern.    Wish you good health!

It means: The tissue of your pancreas has deteriorated and is shrunken down. Often seen in people with history of alcohol excess or other causes of prior pancreatic inflammation.

Any symptoms?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, your level is normal.

No: However, transplant of small cellular components of the pancreas which make the insulin, called islets, are done in a few experimental centers around the country.  In addition, some patients can do well with an external artificial Insulin pump which delivers Insulin over a two day period and has to be adjusted less frequently than given Insulin shots.
