how effective is ventolin for asthma?

Albuterol (ventolin): is a short acting bronchodilator, it opens up constricted airways, allowing a person to breath easier.  It is the best medicine for treating shortness of breath related to asthma, and the most common medication in rescue inhalers.  Many people with asthma need to take longer acting medications in addition to using albuterol as needed for shortness of breath.

i have asthma and i ve been taking seretide diskus for it! what is the difference between seretide and ventolin ?

Big: Seretide contains both a long-acting bronchodilator and an inhaled steroid and is meant for maintenance and control, ventolin is a short-acting bronchodilator only used as a rescue med when you have an attack.   Using ventolin alone repeatedly may actually worsen your asthma.

how big a drop in peak flow is indicative of asthma? highest is 720 but becomes 660 - 610 without ventolin. can ventolin improve pf in healthy people?

Numbers and Symptoms: In a patient with known asthma, we generally understand an exacerbation to be in the 75% drop range on peak flow. Your numbers reflect a 92% drop. Yes: Ventolin can be delivered by inhaler or as albuterol using a home nebulizer.  Either method will provide effective delivery.  Good inhaler technique is important for maximum medication delivery to the lungs.  Using a nebulizer is easier, but it takes longer and is typically not as portable.

15-20min: Vent plain takes 15-20 min to work if you r using more frequently then you need to  use. Maintenance drug like inhaled steroids and control asthma.

They are the: same medication,albuterol,made by different companies. Proair is probably prescribed more now because it is cheaper to buy than ventolin. They are both as effective for asthma.

what are the differences between ventolin evohaler and ventolin accuhaler? can i use accuhaler instead of using evohaler? and how do i know that i have exercise induced asthma?

:    " the Evohaler releases an aerosol version into the body whereas the Accuhaler is a lactose micro powder version" (online resource).  The formulation/dosage of the two inhalers is similar, but please check with your pharmacist and PCP. Exercise induced asthma may respond to pre treatment with Albuterol 5-10 minutes prior to exercise. The reversal of symptoms with Albuterol supports the dx.

are anti-histamines considered anti-cholinergics? what about ventolin for asthma, is that anti-cholinergic?

Neither are, really.: Ventolin is albuterol...A sympathetic nervous system stimulant that causes airways to dilate.  Anti-histamines are not anticholinergic, per se, but in high doses or in the elderly they can cause some of the same neurological symptoms as anticholinergics.  Most newer antihistamines are not a problem though, because they penetrate the brain less well - which is why they don't make you drowsy.

what to do with coughing and wheezing with asthma, after already on ventolin?

Call your doc: Your doctor may have to make sure you are administering your inhaler properly and in the proper amount. Additional doses may be needed or stepping up of your plan. Preventive medications may be needed or attention in a doctor's office or in an er setting.

asthma...i take both preventive and rescue inhaler but my asthma not under control..i know it's not good to take ventolin a lot but i do..6 times aday?

Uncontrolled asthma: If your asthma is not controlled it is time to see your  Dr or a pulmonologist,  there  are several  options to add to your treatment plan, are you using singulair (montelukast) too?  Are you exposed to any triggers such as smoking or passive smoking,  animal dandruff,  dust mite,   etc, does exercise aggravate your asthma?please  take care of yourself, feel better &amp; good luck.
