Asthma: You will need a short burst of prednisone by mouth to bring your asthma under control. e.g. 30 mg twice daily for 5 days. Also, you may have to increase the strength of the inhaled steroids.

Asthma: You are right your asthma is not well controlled. You need to see your doc. Discuss what other options are out there for preventative (duel meds, adjuncts etc) that may help you get better control. Make sure that you are compliant and avoid cigarette smoking at all costs. Your doc who knows you best is going to be your best resource. If you feel otherwise then request a referral to a pulmonologist

Know your triggers: Asthma always has certain things (your "triggers") that cause the bronchospasm and inflammation of the lining of your airways. Common triggers are: exercise, various fumes, tobacco smoke, pets, cold air temp., air pollution, etc. You need to know what specifically triggers your asthma. Montelukast is a medicine often used to help control asthma due to various allergens. Best wishes.
