: Obtain the best of three measurements, and the green zone of the peak flow meter indicates airflow in the larger airways. The other aspect though is how you actually feel and if you hear wheezing, small airway function may be compromised. 
Continue your asthma action plan, and a medication adjustment may be discussed with your provider or by virtual consult with HT.
Continue to monitor breathing.

: Peak flow is used for monitoring &amp; estimating asthma severity, assessing the effectiveness of asthma treatment and pulmonary rehab exercise, not for the diagnosis of asthma. Itchy neck and back are likely due to allergy (contact dermatitis) or dry skin. If you apply skin moisturizer and get relief, dry skin is likely the culprit. Take care.

sudden adult flare of asthma. peak flow within 20% of best but itchy chin, shortness of breath and tightness of chest.  dr says lungs sound okay?

Albuterol, flovent: With 80 % max flow you&#x27;re ok if you keep up with maintenance albuterol and inhaled steroid of choice. Just to be proactive, go see your GP and get some oral steroids to avoid a drop in peak flow

what would cause, when asthma peak flow meter is at a green zone level, and no cough or wheezing but chest tightness that doesnt go away at all but is relieved some when take nebulizer only but never fully gone, feels like lungs not opening fully ?

: Keep a log of the PEFR readings, note time,date and activities, symptoms. Asthma may be highly variable when not well controlled. Avoid smoke,allergens and review the PEFR log. can you have pneumonia w/ the only symptom being intermittent chest pain? had flu/prolonged sinusitis. have asthma. peak flows are really good (500+)

Unlikely: If you have pneumonia, you would likely have a cough, fever,  or problem breathing. At your age, heart disease is not a strong suspect unless you are diabetic.  Need to consult your doctor re. The chest pain- i could have given you a better answer if you had specified the location of the location, duration , triggers, or character of the chest pain.

currently on oral steroids for asthma but still peak flow is around 350 and drops to around 260, soon as i got to work (clothing store) it starts off and continues all day and worked there 4 years now?

Asthma: Besides the prednisone are you on long acting asthma medications, rescue medications, do you have allergies that exacerbate your asthma.  When you have an exacerbation like this do multiple triggers make you worse such as are found in the store you work in.  Do you need antibiotics.  You need to return and be seen your peak flow is awful, I wonder what your oxygenation is, and are you fit to work.

Steroids: People with chronic asthma or COPD if they need steroid should not be withheld as it is lifesaving. We do have to protect the bones as we want to avoid most of all spinal fractures. We can give certain things like calcitonin or bisphosphonates if needed. Your doctor and you can make that decision when you discuss your problem.

have adult onset asthma. allergies make worse. peak flow test was 38/58. started qvar. can i take  long time?  what long term use side effects? age 57

Accepted Answer

Yes: You might need it for a long time. But you can work on your allergies with avoidance and possibly oral medications. Side effects include bone loss, glaucoma, cataracts.

how to bring up peak flow in someone with asthma?

Accepted Answer

Asthma control: Peak flow will improve when your asthma is controlled. Remember if your asthma symptoms are persistent, you need to take a controller medication every day even though you do well. This way, your asthma symptoms are not likely to recur and your peak flow will improve. A controller is usually an inhaled corticosteroid.

my peak flow reading is 550 litre per minute and 550 second reading is this good ? i don't have asthma

Accepted Answer

Coud b normal. Why?: Peak Flows, though quantifiable, are effort dependent. Need to check technique. Also, depends on size. Spirometry does not peak until 30-35. 550 could be ok. Is there a symptom here?
