Unnecessary.: Azelastine is an antihistamine, just like Loratidine. So I don't think you'd need the both.  The two nasal sprays should be sufficient to control your symptoms.

Same: While I love Dymista because it combines both a steroid and an antihistamine sometimes it can be very expensive. In situations where affordability is an issue, I often prescribe the components separately (azelastine and fluticasone) in order to save patients money. Both are equally effective, Dymista's advantage is that its all combined in one spray.

: Depends. Azelastine is an antihistamine nasal spray that would be a good preventive taken prior to exposure to allergens. It can reduce aggravation by new exposure. Flonase is a nasal steroid that helps reduce inflammation and increases cell integrity. Either will function well depending on the situation and pattern of use. Nasal steroids often take 2-3 days to produce any noticeable relief.

No big difference: Theoretically, Astelin (azelastine) should be used first since it starts working in minutes to decongest the nose followed by Flonase 10-15 minutes later. In practice, not much difference either way.   In fact , the combination product is already available but most insurers would deny it because it is fractionally more expensive than buying the two separately. Too bad we now live in a bottom-line world.

4 lns enlarged in upper neck for 2 yrs. achey/painful. seen 2 docs & had 2 us. docs say they're enlarged/reactive, mayb allergies. on flonase, claritn & azelastine. y haven't they suggested biopsy since lymphoma cant b ruled out w/o biopsy?

: Lymph nodes of 2 year duration and they do not get bigger and you are still fine at this time except localized pain so it is unlikely lymphoma or any other malignant disease.

what causes chronic nasal congestion which responds to afrin but not astelin, flonase, or sinus rinses? can surgery even work in a case like this?

Afrin (oxymetazoline) rebound: Afrin (oxymetazoline) causes severe narrowing of the blood vessels in the nose and thus the effect on decongestion.  However prolonged constriction leads to decrease blood supply to the tissue and may lead to permanent damages.  The nose also becomes less responsive to afrin (oxymetazoline) with prolonged use .  Flonase counteracts inflammation and Astelin is an antihistamine and neither constricts the blood vessels.

can you use flonase or azelastine nasal sprays if you have covid or other viral infections that affect your nose or respiratory system? i'm asking because these drugs are immunosuppressants so concerned about adverse consequences?

: With an active covid infection I would skip the flonase (a corticosteroid) and use the azelastine and a decongestant nasal spray like sudafed according to instructions may reduce nasal membrane congestion for you if you're clogged up.

Nasal sprays: Azelastine- a nasal antihistamine spray.  This is like claritin/fexofenadine and should not make one sleepy

fluticasone- a nasal steroid spray.  This is usually intended to decrease the symptoms of nasal allergies.

While the main indications for both relate to nasal congestion related to allergies, sometimes docs give them for things like ear dysfunction.

See Below: Post nasal drip is most often caused by allergies, although there is a syndrome called non-allergic rhinitis that can sometimes cause it.  Flonase treats allergic inflammation which will reduce stuffiness and drainage.  Azelastine will treat drainage, sneezing, itching, and it treats the non-allergic rhinitis if it's there as well.

One or the other: Depending on the cause of post nasal drip, either azelastine or fluticasone can be beneficial for allergic or non-allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis. All can cause post nasal drip, as can a cold. Saline nasal spray or rinses are also beneficial to improve post nasal drip.
