Intent: Assisted suicide uses a standardized dosage of medication to ease someone into death.  Done properly there are extensive controls, examinations and doctor certifications needed to accomplish this.  Overdosing is usually an accident and although harm may be done, the intent was accidental.

Discussing one's views re: faith, life, death, and medical care with one's doctor is very important as is having an advanced health care directive and polst made.  Hospice can make the experience before natural death more humane.  One need not resort in suicide; which is not legal, moral, biblical, and many think, not ethical.

Consult Lawyer: There are so many tricky issues surrounding this subject - dnr laws vary from state to state (i didn't see which state you were inquiring about) but it's not something to take lightly, i would say play it safe and consult an attorney experienced in palliative care matters or forensic psychiatry (depending on the situation) on how to move forward with care while honoring elections made beforehand.
