A member asked:

If a patient has a legal "dnr" and they need cpr after a suicide attempt, should i honor dnr and assist with suicide?

Consult Lawyer: There are so many tricky issues surrounding this subject - dnr laws vary from state to state (i didn't see which state you were inquiring about) but it's not something to take lightly, i would say play it safe and consult an attorney experienced in palliative care matters or forensic psychiatry (depending on the situation) on how to move forward with care while honoring elections made beforehand.

No: I've been told that in most jurisdictions, and from what other physicians say, you fully resuscitate following a suicide attempt on the assumption that the person did not really want to do this and was not thinking clearly and any expressed wishes about not being resuscitated aren't really from the person, but from whatever caused the suicidal behavior
