Ulcer risks : Both can increase risk of stomach ulcer formation, although Ibuprofen is less risky. With your history of gerd look for anti-inflammatories that are cox-2 inhibitors.

have ulcerative colitis. taking lialda for four years. can i take celebrex (celecoxib) for arthritis pain? i know i can't use aspirin or ibuprofen.

Yes for short time: If your IBD is in remission then, you can use Celebrex (celecoxib) for up to 14 days without risk to your IBD.  Otherwise, no there is a contraindication against the drug.

could multiple pain relievers taken for a few days cause numbness and tingling in arms? i've had a headache for a few days, so i started with store brand aspirin, then moved onto ibuprofen, and then tried tylenol for arthritis.  i have taken probably more

Although : Although not taking medications as prescribed is concerning, that is unlikely to be the cause.  The numbness and tingling in your arms is concerning for compression of your spinal cord.  You need to be seen immediately and have an MRI performed.  If your arms feel numb, weak, or you are having pain then you should be seen in emergency.  This could cause a permanent problem so it is extremely important to have this checked out.

No advisable: Too much of these can cause GI bleeding that can be a big problem.

: There is a higher chance of your being allergic to Ibuprofen also. Suggest try Tylenol (acetaminophen)

Nsaids: This is atricky one, you may or may not be allergic to aspirin, you should consult an allergist for a detailed history and possible testing.

Acetaminophen: Acetaminophen (tylenol) is a safe alternative. You can take 2 extra strength (500mg) tablets up to four times per day.

Accepted Answer

No: Typically we tell patients to avoid taking both aspirin and ibuprofen together as they have similar mechanisms of action and can cause adverse effects (GI bleeding, etc).
