Accepted Answer

Yes: ASA can induce stomach symptoms  (heart burn, ulcer) even with just a few doses- depending on individual sensitivity.  This is a common complication from all NSAIDs and not necessarily a sensitivity.   GERD symptoms also vary greatly but  most complaints consist of heartburn and bloating.

Whats your object?: Both acid (citrate) and basic (hydroxide) salts of magnesium are usually used as laxatives or to replace metabolic states of low plasma magnesium and also have sedating properties. I don't believe they stimulate Hydrochloric acid secretion as does aspirin. But almost anything that upsets the stomach should be taken with food, and re-evaluate why you are taking it.

Need headache diary: Whenever someone has a one sided headache one can think about migraines.  Whenever anybody talks about constant dull pain one can think about tension type headaches especially without light sensitivity and other vegetative features.  So it seems like you have a little bit of this and a little bit of that. You could use a headache specialist--- and should fill out a headache diary to get analyzed.

I don't agree with: this recommendation. Given your cardiac history and potential for PFO I think you should be on low dose ASA daily as you are doing. Perhaps an enteric coated one would avoid the stomach burn otherwise I would not change.

Yes: The answer is swelling and/or hives. This is different from aspirin-sensitive asthma or aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease which is triggered by nearly all nsaids

Petechia: Depends on your meaning of mild.  It is not uncommon for individuals on Aspirin to experience mild bruising, but petechia can indicate a platelet problem. You should see your regular physician to determine the cause.

Yes: But am not really impressed with aspirin potency in preventing a stroke, as clopidigrel and Aggrenox seem more effective.

No: There is a condition called reye syndrome that has been associated with the use of Aspirin by children when treating a viral illness. This syndrome affect the brain and liver and is fatal 20% of the time. It is very rare now as Aspirin use in children has decreased.

See below: If there is no significant facial droop, i would try swallowing an Aspirin with the smallest amount of liquid needed. If you are having trouble swallowing the tablet, place it under your tongue. Aspirin is quite bitter! many stroke victims, especially those with facial droop have difficulty swallowing. In our ed we give our patient's a rectal suppository of aspirin, i wouldn't expect you to have it.

what is safe dose of aspirin for the purpose of blood thinning at onset of tia-like symptoms prior to diagnosis can be confirmed?

325 mg daily: Would start on 325 mg and get to the hospital.  A TIA can not be differentiated from a stroke initially - until the symptoms resolve.  If symptoms resolve, it is a tia.  If they don't, these persistent symptoms represent a stroke - which requires immediate treatment.
