Spasm due to pain : Most often it is a benign finding due to spasm.Spasm may be due to muscle sprain or underlying subtle fracture. So, the bottom line is, if the pain continues beyond a few days, you may need additional studies to exclude subtle injuries.

cervical spine x-ray 5 views and lumber spine x-ray 5 views (no lead shield). should i be worried about the radiadtion and my future health?

No: The amount of radiation you received was still small by comparison to computed tomography (ct) or other radiographic dye studies. You're a male, make new sperm every day so the chance for long term adverse effects is slim.

Discuss PT w/doctor: It sounds like you have some degenerative changes in your spine.  It is not uncommon to see on x-rays; your doctor can tell whether it's significant or not.  Straightening of the c-spine is generally due to muscle spasm.  A physical therapist may be able to help with that.

Anomaly : This is most likley an anomaly (a normal variant). In fact, some of the bony prominence on the vertebrae have been observed to vary between racial groups.  Based on these observation, some have proposed categorizing human beings into subspecies.

i am a 41 yr. old female. 5 ft tall & 98 lbs. just received x-ray report stating severe spondylosis in mid cervical spine. what does this mean. ?

Spondylosis: Spondylosis is age related changes to the spine. This is not a disease and happens to everyone as they age. There is loss of water content of the disks, loss of disk height leading to bulging of the disks and narrowing of the spinal canal and foramen (areas where nerves exit the spine. This can lead to pressure on the spinal cord and disks. Ask to see a spine specialist to evaluate.

i am suprised that the specialists at er couldnt identify my collapsed/bulging/herniated  cervical discs by x rays, wouldnt they show up on x ray?

Accepted Answer

No: Xrays of the cervical spine are good at evaluating for fractures, but not for looking at the discs, because the discs are soft tissue structures that do not show up well. Mri, however, is the preferred modality for evaluating the soft tissue structures such as the discs.

Not necessarily.: X-ray is not a screening for cervical cancer.  If a large tumor were present this could be seen with x-ray but this is not a way to check for cervical cancer.  See your doctor for a pap smear.

i was just going over the report of a cervical spine x-ray i had, and the word "sclerosis" came up.should i be worried?

Accepted Answer

No: Sclerosis in the bone usually means increased bone density. It would be prudent to talk to the doctor who ordered the x-ray.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
