Depends on cause.: Joint pains is so complex, that there is a specialty of internal medicine devoted to it: rheumatology.  When i spent a year at johns hopkins hospitals during training, i didn't realize i would be studying well over a hundred diseases entities.  Joint pains that go on for months, esp. When they are inflammed (hot, red, swollen, painful), then c ur pcp. Joint aches (arthralgia)--try  an otc first.

One : One of the ways to get correct information from a computer is to have the correct ( input) information in the computer. In medicine is the same , you need precise data to make the adecuate diagnosis . I don t mean to under estimate you impression of how you hands look or how they feel and i don t mean to under estimate your diagnosis of aquiles tendinitis or others, but in order to make the right diagnosis in rheumatology you need to have an appropiate history and physical exam, these two features give you a very very good hint of the diagnosis , that could then be confiorm by blood test or x rays etc.... Rheumatoid arthrtis is not always rheumatoid factor positive and there are 140 varieties of rheumatic diseases . I believe you need a rheumatologist to evaluate you and try to define what your ailments are to get the propper diagnosis and the propper therapy.

: If there is no sign of inflammation (warm, red and swelling), inflammatory joint disease is less likely. You should stop or reduce the activity which exacerbates the pain or discomfort, take Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) 200 mg x 2 (OTC med) every 6-8 hours as needed for 1-3 days then resuming the activity at a slow pace.
You should see a doctor if there is sign of inflammation for a correct diagnosis
