Normal aging: As we age the majority of individuals after the age of fifty will have wear and tear changes of the spine. We treat the patient's symptoms not their X-rays. If you are not have symptoms do not worry. It like getting wrinkles of the skin

i have a vertigo. it's triggered if i have a migraine, cold, or stress. sometimes my ears ring. i also have neck pain, athritis rhematoid. advise?

Migraine: Migraine is a common cause of vertigo.  Vertigo is a sensation of movement when you are not moving.  Not all dizziness is vertigo, and many people use it incorrectly.  I recommend seeing an ENT, getting an audiogram and reviewing it all to see if it makes sense that it is migraine causing your symptoms. Need to rule out Meniere's disease, BPPV, others.

Morning stiffness: Not related to cholesterol but to joint inflammation and dehydration. Drink more water at bedtime for less morning stiffness.

Extension: Neck&back pain can result from repeated flexed postures-examples of this are texting, writing eating.We are frequently in this forward bending position.This can result in disc herniations leading to pain.Repeated extension exercises can help reverse this and strengthen the back. I recommend the book "treat your own back"  by r. Mckenzie.  Yoga also improves strength and flexibility of the spine.

McKenzie Exercises: Pt for back and neck conditions involve stretching, strengthening, and some range of motion. These exercises start very gently, and then are progressed by a certified pt based upon patient response. All patients are different, so the exact exercises differ as does the progress. Pilates is also excellent for the core (yoga and piyo other options) if you want non-medical option.

Muscle spasm: Could result from poor posture or as you mention, being in the same position por long periods of time. You should try getting up and stretching at regular intervals during your study time, gentle massage and heat may also help relieve your discomfort. If your pain persists or worsens you should seek medical attention. Good luck!

Water aerobics: If you are comfortable being in water, I have found that my patients with severe joint or back disorders have benefited from water exercises in a structured program, such as a YMCA or fitness facility that provides water aerobics.  Talk with your doctor!

during exercise, fell back and hit back of head on floor. did not feel dizzy or headache, but neck pain set in quick, esp. while turning. advice?

Probably a muscle: strain.  Rest, soft cervical collar, otc ibuprofen or naprosyn (naproxen).  If it persists, see a doctor, and if nothing else is wrong, prescription for muscle relaxant and physical therapy
