Yes relatively: Abilify (aripiprazole) was approved in 2002. Fda indications include: schizophrenia, acute manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder; an adjunct for the treatment of major depressive disorder; to treat irritability in children with autism. It is a Dopamine receptor partial agonist, which makes it unique compared to prior medications (even relatively new ones) for schizophrenia.

Antipsychotic: Abilify (aripiprazole) partially activates Dopamine receptors in the brain. It's a newer antipsychotic and used in the treatment of schziphrenia, but is also used in severe psychotic depression as well as sometimes as for bipolar depression.

If aripiprazole: makes you sleepy it is fine to take it before bedtime and take advantage of the sleepiness. If it causes insomnia then take it in the morning and discover measures to help you fall asleep at night. If it does not cause either sleepiness or insomnia then you can take it anytime. Wait a bit: I think you might be very wise to wait a bit before starting this. Discuss it very completely w/ a Dr you trust - or a few if you don't have a relationship. Side effects: All medications have potential side effects.  Some of those that can occur with ability include akathesia (ants in your pants sensation), weight gain, increased fats in blood, increased blood sugar. There is a theoretic risk for neuroleptic malignant syndrome and tardive dyskinesia. It is a medication that many of my patients use with good results. Take care.
