Plastic Surgery : The desire for plastic surgery comes from the patient and its the doctor's job to make sure expectations can be met and that the patient is realistic about what can be done.  If there is a match, then go for it.   And in reality, plastic surgery (cosmetic) is a luxury, plain and simple.  There are no 'arguments' for and against plastic surgery.

Depends...: ...On the operation.  Women in their 20-30's are commonly asking about breast augmentation.  Those in their 30-40's are commonly asking about tummy tucks (witch hazel).  40's and 50's - blepharoplasty and facelift.  So - if you are healthy, and starting to notice a feature you don't like, go see your local board certified plastic surgeon for a consult.

Yes: In general, the face will continue to lose its volume as the person ages. In the majority of people the cheeks start to get smaller significantly after the age of 25-35. If the condition of large cheeks is a of hereditary nature, i.e. You parents still have them, then plastic surgery maybe the answer.

Independent opinion: When in doubt regarding any medical question, consider getting a second opinion.  In your case, seek out a board-certified plastic surgeon, not connected in any way to your present surgeon (preferably unknown to him/her, or at least don't reveal his/her identity).  Make it clear to the second surgeon that you are NOT considering surgery with this him or her, and you'll get an honest opinion.

It depends: Plastic surgery recovery depends on the type of surgery you are having and how extensive it needs to be.  A fully trained plastic surgeon that knows advanced techniques will be up to date on minimally invasive procedures.  I peform a lot of outpatient advanced cutting edge techniques that allow quick recovery and return to work.  Find a plastic surgeon who is fully trained at an accredited program.

Bandage : Speak with your surgeon for their recommendation as to when to remove the bandage. It depends on the type of surgery , location,  etc.

Don't Smoke: Most of the time reconstructive surgeons will not perform certain procedures if the patient is still a smoker.  Smoking affects blood vessels and impairs wound healing.  Otherwise, love yourself for who you are and keep healthy.  You may or may not desire plastic surgery, "when the time comes".

It varies: The amount of pain varies depending on the specific procedure as well as many other factors. Some procedures are relatively painless and others can be more painful. Most can be managed well with reasonable doses of pain medication for relatively short periods of time. For more specific information you should consult a board certified plastic surgeon.

is plastic surgery the only solution for a big pannus?

I'm afraid so: Once the skin has been stretched beyond its capacity to retract (for example after massive weight gain and then loss), it will not go away by itself. Sometimes removal of a pannus is covered by health insurance. See a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss all of your options.
