Family therapy: It is important for the parents to be involved closely in the therapy process when a child has autism.  If he does have an abnormal ekg, eeg or other physical problems it is important to get followup testing to check out all posibilities.  Your son needs to realize you are open to compromise about timing, situations of the test but he does not have the right to refuse.

Call your daughter's physician to get an early appointment , as ED waits and long weight times may be difficult for your daughter's autism condition, and cause unnecessary stress/anxiety.

Autism at the ck up: At the annual check up the pediatrician looks for certain signs that affect language and behavior.  Children are expected to follow certain norms depending on their age.

Pediatricians also have charts to help them evaluate intellectual function, although they may not show this, as they tend to show height and weight instead.

Current standards : For genetic testing in a child with autism include comparative genomic hybridization & dna probe for fragile x. If there are physical findings like unusual facial features or hyper- or hypo-pigmented areas of skin  (seen with a wood's light), there may be more specific tests. The need for an MRI of the brain is determined by head growth (birth-present) & specific findings on neurological exam.

Weaning : Weaning any child from a bottle can be tricky.  Add autism into the mix and it's just become 10 times harder.  The problem is that she is going to have to take a cup eventually, so usually the sooner, the better.  Try to remember that it is your job to offer nutritious food and it's her job to eat it.  A child will not starve themselves if food is available.  The most important thing is to make sure she is staying hydrated.  Is she still urinating at least 3-4 times a day?  If so, you are in good shape and keep offering the cup.  If not, then you need to contact her doctor for another plan of action because it could be dangerous for her to become severely dehydrated. i believe i have both adhd and autism but was never diagnosed as a kid. my mother never believed in taking me to hospitals or seeing a therapist and i was kind of ignored? is it possible to have both disorders and if so, what are the common signs?
