2-3 weeks: The serologic tests are still not altogether reliable. Most folks with antibodies against herpes 2 do have genital herpes.  Many people with antibodies against herpes 1 have never had fever blisters but these people do seem immune to primary infection.

Type specific = good: Type specific herpes tests are great at distinguishing between type 1 & 2. Rarely if someone is highly positive for type 1 w/ a very low positive for type 2, we believe it could be a false positive, even with type specific tests, which are the best tests out there to screen for herpes. If u have a genital sore, immediately see a doc for a swab which reliably distinguishes type 1&2, if positive.

Yes: There is more than one test type for syphilis and both need to be done for accurate results. Herpes can generally be diagnosed with a single test. It may need to be repeated if the infection is too recent.

Usually: 4-6 weeks post exposure is usually the amount of time considered necessary for a igg blood test to be appropriate.

Ask doctor again: Igm antibodies tell us you have not just recently contracted herpes. Igg antibodies positive mean old herpes. Almost everybody in the country has cold sores because of grandmas kissing babies/etc. Oral is 2/3rds type i herpes & 1/3 type ii these days & vice versa for genital. This is only important to know for future reference because type ii is much more severe &.Frequent. Treatment is the same.

Family practice : If you are tested positive it doesn't tell you when you were exposed. If neg it may be too early to tell.

how accurate is an igg herpes blood test after 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 8 weeks? i had a risky sexual encounter just over 8 weeks ago. i have tested negative via igg blood tests at each of these time periods. are these conclusive? additional testing?

: It can take up to 12 or even 16 weeks for HSV blood tests to become positive; and some infections never result in positive test results. Partly for those reasons, testing for HSV generally is not recommended after risky encounters, unless there are symptoms that suggesting new herpes. However, with no symptoms plus these negative results, it is very unlikely you acquired herpes.

HSV test accuracy: Accurate for HSV2, not HSV1. The negative result shows for sure you do not have HSV2. You could still have HSV1:  up to one third of people with HSV1 never develop positive blood tests.

No more exposures?: If a woman is a worrier, she will worry until she stops exposing herself. So, at this time she can stop worrying and stop exposing herself. If she decides to expose herself again, she will worry again. It's a choice to expose or not to expose; thus, the worrying is her own consequence within her control.
