in most areas to advise a patient otherwise is a violation of the code of ethics. If you personally feel better having a white filling, you can always have it changed.

i was filling up my gas tank and like an idiot, i didn't point it up after i removed the knozzle. a little bit hit the ground. i don't think anything got on me. is this harmful?

: Not particularly. It would evaporate in a few minutes. People often use gasoline as a solvent to wash things like tar off their skin. Other than the fire and explosion risk it is relatively harmless to skin.

Both have good/bad: The silver (amalgam) filling material is one of the most studied materials in dentistry.  There is no evidence of any danger in any reliable study, and there has been many.  That being said, you will likely get 5 different answers from 5 different dentists.  Both have good and bad properties, and when used in the right circumstances with the correct techniques, both can be a very reliable fillings.

Silver filling: They generally leak slowly over time and more so after the first two years even if they look fine according to research. As to harmful-in my opinion no unless you are allergic to non  precious metals. In future try to wait until after the first trimester; check with your obgyn.

Please consult: With your dentist as I am sure your dentist can  explain what is in the filling and if u have a cavity or dental problem and it is left untreated it could cause infection and other problems which be serious.

Amalgam: Your baby should be fine and i would not be concerned with the vapour. Amalgam has been around for several centuries and we have delivered many healthy children whose mother had silver fillings. If you are more concerned see your obgyn and after the baby is born see your dentist to get the filling made permanent.

No correlation: Your unborn will not be affected by that silver filling or any other silver fillings you might have. Amalgams have been placed for over 150 years on millions and millions of teeth, and countless millions have been born during that time period. You would think if they were dangerous there would be a detectable pattern. Forget what you've read. Others may disagree, but fact is fact.

Absolutely not!: There is nothing to be concerned about. Only elemental mercury could be harmful. Once combined as part of a hardened amalgam filling, there is no danger. Congratulations and good luck.

when can you eat after a filling?

right away with care: You can eat most things after a filling but should avoid sticky things like hard canday, gummy candy, and hard to chew items like bread.  The adhesion between the filling and the tooth needs some time to mature but will do so in less than 24 hours.  Also you should wait until the anesthetic wears of to prevent filling damage or biting your cheek.
