Neurologic exam: Your symptoms merit a careful examination by a neurologist as well as a comprehensive medical exam.  Sometimes, memory loss is a side-effect of a drug.

are there any vitamins/supplements that help with short term memory loss due to ssris? i've tried paxil, busbar, zoloft - all seem to effect my memory

Help for memory: There aren't necessarily vitamins with proven direct effects on memory, but the B-complex vitamins support brain/nervous system health. A healthy diet in general supports brain health as well (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts/seeds). Fish oil or flaxseed oil is anti-inflammatory in nature and has been considered to have benefits to physical and mental health.

could taking zoloft (sertraline) (200mg) irregularly be causing my extreme short term memory loss, occasional nausea & muscle twitch? withdrawal? if so, how long?

What do you mean: by "irregularly?"   200 mg of Zoloft (sertraline) is a high dose, so there must be a reason to take that much.   But, taking it other than daily is not so usual, and at that dose might cause havoc, including STM loss, nausea and muscle twitching.   Consult with your prescribing MD.   Normal dose is 100 MG q. d., unless something else is going on...Do you have a therapist?

my dad has been on donezepil for 2+ months but have only noticed short term memory getting worse. when does donezepil start working? also on zoloft (sertraline)

6 months: most studies look at outcomes at 6 months although you could see a benefit earlier. However, you should be aware that these types of medication only cause modest improvement in symptoms, and unfortunately do not prevent worsening of the disease.

does clonzazepam cause short term memory loss even if you just take it as needed?

Yes: Klonopin (clonazepam) is in the family of medications (the benzodiazepams) that have properties which can depress central nervous system processing of information. Short-term memory is such a process that can be affected even by the  use of "as needed"  klonopin (clonazepam).  This is a side effect that is often dose related; consider talking to the healthcare provider who recommended Klonopin (clonazepam) to review a dose amendments.

31 m. i keep suffering from short term memory loss. recently, i forgot to take something i bought at the store to my car. i also slammed car door on myself trying to get out. what is the likely issue here? long term depression?

: ADHD? slamming door is not due to short term memory loss I would not think. More like being distracted. Ask about ADHD problems with your Dr. as well as keeping a good diary to share with them on your memory issues. If you can remember to do that. ;-) Dr humor. Please keep a detailed diary and discuss.  Ask others who know you what they see.

i read that long term use of beta blockers can cause short term memory loss. i have been prescribed 25 mg of atenolol for anxiety and am concerned about getting dementia, but may need to,take it for long time. should i be concerned?

: Yes, there are numerous side effects from the use of beta-blockers, and stopped using any of them in my practice years ago.  Not unusual are depression, fatigue, decreased exercise tolerance, and YES, cognitive and memory problems.  The issues dissipate on stopping the drug.  Suggest you get a Second Opinion, as at your age, you will be more sensitive to this.

do adhd meds fix short term memory loss saw a neurologist for memory issues and brain fog, after every test diagnosis was adhd, when i take the meds, my memory aint better at all. mri showed lesions ms was cleared, right parietal/ frontal lobe spots?

: Go back to your Neurologist and tell him what remaining symptoms are continueing and which have gone away. They can adjust your medications or add different ones to get the correct treatment that you need.

Memory loss: That depends on what caused the memory loss. Consult a neurologist & your pcp for workup.

been on 20mg of prozac (fluoxetine) for 6 months...lately feeling short term memory loss...is this a side effect?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes it is, if it turns intolerable, please ask your pcp to have it changed to other antidepressants.
