can a nosebleed be caused by my stress/anxiety?

It can!: Studies have shown that, in some cases, patients who experience nosebleeds get them after finding themselves in stressful situations. i get really scared and have anxiety when i get a nosebleed. it is a huge fear of mine. my blood scares me and especially from a nosebleed. i read being nervous can make it worse. is this true? what can i do? thank you?

: Nose bleeding is mostly a nuisance, however, some individuals are overly  scared of watching fresh blood.  I would like to suggest to see an ENT specialist whether you have a treatable condition.  I would also suggest applying vaseline inside nostril each night which will certainly reduce frequency of nose bleeding.

i recently started taking zoloft (sertraline) for anxiety/depression. i've been getting nosebleeds with a headache, is that normal?

Not normal: Nosebleed from Zoloft (sertraline) is an uncommon if not rare side effect. However, it's possible both headache (more common) and nosebleeds are from Zoloft (sertraline) if both began when you started this med.  Review with prescribing doctor to consider lowering dose or switching to another med not likely to cause these side effects. I hope this helps.

chances of an 19 year old developing sinus cancer i have been having nosebleeds most likely due to living in mississippi but still freaking out and have been feeling lumps that i hope are due to anxiety everywhere where google says there will be?

: You don't have cancer; you're having nose bleeds. If they stop, using direct pressure from the side for ten minutes, they're not serious. Then just baby your nose, don't blow it or fiddle with it for a week and they'll stop. We'd need a lot more information to figure out what these lumps are. You need to quit worrying and just see a doctor before you let a simple thing get out of hand.

can accutane cause anxiety afterwards? i was on accutane in 2014 for about 3-4 months. only side effects were nose bleeds on and off and dry skin. since finishing it i have had increased anxiety socially. could this be why?

: Besides teratogenicity , Accutane has been associated with some psychiatric disorders including depression and anxiety . This is supposed to be due to its effect on the brain function especially in the frontal cortex, hippocampus and hypothalamus , as well as  on dopamine and serotonin levels  .If the above side effects persist after stopping it ,  the physician might advise therapy and treatment.

Anxiety: Anxiety can cause all of these symptoms. Nosebleeds can be an indirect effect of anxiety when it also causes an increase in blood pressure. Bodyaches may be related to poor sleep and muscle tension from anxiety. Anxiety can make your throat feel tight and sore. Other medical causes include hyperthyroidism, night time acid reflux, and some rare types of high blood pressure conditions.

Anxiety Symptoms: Generally anxiety can cause a whole host of symptoms, but nose bleeds are not usually one of them. If this is the only time he gets them, then perhaps it is related; however, i would have it checked out to rule out anything else - as the chronic use of afrin or other nasal drying agents.

In most cases: The bleeding for most patients are from the front of the septum. Lean forward (so you won't swallow your own blood) and pinch the nostril with your isilateral thumb on the side that is bleeding for 10-15 minutes will usually stop the bleeding. Decongestant spray like afrin (oxymetazoline) can also help. If the bleeding continue and is severe, you'll need to go the emergency room for treatment.

Chronic Nosebleeds: A chronically bleeding nose equals a chronically irritated nose, as seen with dry membranes, nose picking, and allergies. Also patients on blood thinners are at risk. Try saline nasal sprays to prevent. If they persist, go see an ENT doctor.
