In most cases: The bleeding for most patients are from the front of the septum. Lean forward (so you won't swallow your own blood) and pinch the nostril with your isilateral thumb on the side that is bleeding for 10-15 minutes will usually stop the bleeding. Decongestant spray like afrin (oxymetazoline) can also help. If the bleeding continue and is severe, you'll need to go the emergency room for treatment.

See below: The best way is to tilt your head backwasrd and place a small cloth in the opening of the nose on the side that is bleeding in 5 minutes it should be stopped if not see a physician.
