Accepted Answer

Yes: You are not going to want to put alcohol wipe onto a clean open wound since it burns like crazy.  Spray antiseptic  or even bottle of saline to irrigate the wound is good in addition to alcohol pads that you may want to use in case of a bite or before injection.

Accepted Answer

Yes.: Sure, you can use it - but plain isopropyl alcohol will work just as well, and it's cheaper.

i was pricked by a sewing pin while trying a bridal dress. i bled and got a antiseptic tissue to clean it. it caused me a scratch that i covered with a band-aid. is there any chance that i got infected with hiv or hepatitis? should i be examined?

Accepted Answer

: This was no risk for either HIV, hepatitis, or any other blood borne infection. The possibility of such a pin being contaminated with blood is near zero; if so, the possibility that person has such an infection is very low; and any such virus would be dead as soon as the blood dried. Zero risk, no worries, do not get examined or tested.

Get her: To foot specialist right away. Diabetic foot ulcers can become a serious matter very quickly.

Accepted Answer

Not emergent: More damage is done trying to lower BP quickly than from high bp. 140/100 is mildly elevated and is not harmful over the shortrun. High BP causes damage over many years. That said, the first line drug is hydrochlorothiazide  which is dirt cheap, has only rare side effects, and has excellent outcome data.

No.: Snake bite antivenin is extremely expensive and requires medical supervision to give it and to monitor for side effects.  It is great that you are making up a first aid kit though!  Everyone should do so. By the way: diphenhydramine (Benadryl), liquid and capsule forms, should be in everybody's medicine cabinet, to prevent potentially fatal allergic reactions which can occur without warning.

Opinion Question.: The best first aid kits are the ones that include the most variety of items you feel comfortable using.  Usually first aid kits don't use brand name products in it.  Having a first aid kit that has items you feel you will never feel comfortable using, would be a waste of money.  This is an opinion question.

Maybe...: If you are having leakage of urine when you cough, laugh, or sneeze...a condition known as stress urinary incontinence...it may be due to declining sex hormone levels. Correcting these hormone levels (IMO, using "bio-identical" estrogens, testosterone, and progesterone) is best. But in other women, I've had some success recommending OTC pseudoephedrine ("Sudafed") which tightens sphincters.

i need an alternative medication for vimovo that my medical aid plan, which is let care plus, covers.

Accepted Answer

Vimovo: is a combination drug of 500mg of Naprosyn and 20 mg of  esomperazol, Nexium,a PPI to prevent gastric irritation and reduces stomach acid.- The meds are available as generics, so you would have to take 2 separate pills. You could certainly subsitute Prilosex ( omerazole)  or Pepcid ( famotidine) or Zantac ( ranitidine); however, I suggest generics.

OTC sleeping pill: Best sleep aid is to find & treat the cause of lack of sleep. Some otc sleep aids are melatonin for occasional insomnia.
