Inflammation: The gum tissue around that tooth may be inflamed. Flossing should keep it clean and eventually alleviate the sensitivity. Brush twice a day, too.

i have had a bad tooth nerve pain for 1 month. food gets stuck in gums daily. my dentist couldn't fit me in for an appointment. my molar now fell out and the pain has gone. what do i do now?

Find a new dentist: Ur pain is gone because the  crown part of the tooth broke and tooth was infected and partially dead. The roots are still in the bone and eventhoughnit does not hurt is still infected and you don't want infected part in your jaw bone. Might need to get it extracted. Find a new dentist who can fit you in soon.

Ouch!: So sorry about the tooth pain. I know how it feels. Please get something stronger from an urgent care clinic. Try keeping a clove near your gum.

Yes: A tooth nerve infection, or even nerve death as in pulpal necrosis, will lead to cyst formation and upon growing, pressing on the nerve and cause intermittent pain.  Root canal and possible cyst removal surgery after 6 months follow up to see if the cyst persists.

Wound infection: I find it hard to believe that a dental assistant would intentionally try to hurt a patient. Having said that I also doubt that using the wrong size tray could harm a tooth and although it's possible for any wound to become infected, in a healthy individual the likelihood of it becoming infected would be extremely unusual.

A chronic abscess: May be painless, with symptoms of its presence even as it continues to grow inside the jawbone. Or the area of infection may be walled off by a fibrous membrane, forming a granuloma. Since granulomas are painless and slow-growing, they are discovered only by dental x-ray examinations. The tooth can be saved by root canal therapy and/or surgery.

Antibiotics: Yes, possibly if the infection is severe. However, the antibiotic is more often prescribed to be taken by mouth as most tooth and gum infections are mild. Penicillins are the drug of choice. This family of antibiotics includes amoxicillin, ampicillin. Etc.

could a cyst with an impacted wisdom tooth (upper) ly on nerves and give nerve pain.thankyou?

Yes: When there is a cyst around a wisdom tooth, they both need to be removed asap and sent for pathological evaluation. While rare it could be cancerous and needs to be checked out.  Also cyst of that nature tend to continue to grown and cause issues as you have described. See your dentist for a referral to an oral surgeon.

Nerve pain: Check with the surgeon for any post-op complications.  Check with your dentist to see if another tooth or teeth are responsible for the pain.
