Many things: Trauma can cause compression fractures which can be painful until healing occurs. Degenerative changes as we age with spur formation may also lead to spinal stenosis. Infection can cause osteomyelitis of the vertebrae usually localized to one or two levels.Primary tumor  is rare but metastatic disease can go to the spine.A lot of congenitial abnormalities  with malformation of spine also occurs, .

i have a cob angle of 26 degrees with a slight rotation in my spine w my levoscoliosis. would me also missing my l5 vertebrae make my pain worse and effect my scoliosis?

Seek consultation: Pain with scoliosis may have many etiologies, bone, nerve or muscle, in the adult. Consultation with orthopedic doctror and physical therapist may help. In general non surgical attempts at improving pain should be considered before surgery. The absence of vertebra is usually not likely to increase pain unless causes increase in deformity.

Yes, I would: recommend that you see a doctor, who can examine you and properly treat you. It may just be a minor muscle strain, but you should be seen to be sure.

There are several : Options available to control or minimize a scoliosis in a child but that is dependent on the type of scoliosis, its location, degree, severity, progression risk and age of the child as well as the health of that child.  The options really have to be discussed by an orthopaedic spine surgeon who knows the patient in terms of the exam, imaging studies and medical history.

Curved spine: It is normal to have 12 ribs. There is a slight curve at the top of your thoracic spine. At t7, the vertebra looks more trapezoidal than rectangular. May indicate a compression fracture, or is normal for you. These findings need to be put in context of any symptoms you might have. If you have no symptoms, there is nothing that needs to be done. Check with a spine specialist.

i was told i have mild scoliosis before.  recently had a tender vertebrae, my back pain now is mainly middle/upper and it bothers my sleeping. it feels my whole back needs to crack and i feel it when breathing deeply. what could this be ?

Get evaluated: Point tenderness over a vertebrae can be evidence of an unusual but worrisome infection. Scoliosis would not be a likely source. I would see you doc as soon as you can arrange it.

20years ago had l-4 spinal fusion for congenital scoliosis now as an adult uncontrollable pain. what do you recommend?

Work up: You need to see a spine specialist to get some tests done to see if you have adjacent levels degeneration. Usually pt  and injections  are  first course of treatment.

i underwent a back x-ray due to back pain. it showed generalized diminished bone density and mild scoliotic change in the lumbar vertebrae, while the intervertebral space is unchanged. i'll undergo an mri, should i be worried?

No: Unfortunately some of the back changes we get are genetic and some are from overuse. Once the results of your MRI are known, your doctor will have some solutions of how to treat your problems. All the best.

what is congenital scoliosis?

Type of spine curve: There are multiple reasons for scoliosis &one is known as a congenital type which is when there is a deformity of the bones ( vertebra) of the spine that one is born with & leads to an early curvature of the spine.  Some don't need surgery & others do.  They tend to not respond to bracing & can be very progressive in terms of a rapidly worsening curve & may be associated with other medical issues.

i'v a 10 yrs. old daughter who has an s shape congenital scoliosis more than 45*, there was no noticable progress & no pain. what are the options?

Early and often care: Although there has been no progression yet, with your daughter at age 10 and either early in puberty or not even entering puberty yet, now is the time to be very aggressive about monitoring for changes and intervening early.  This is not a little 10 degree curve - she is already at 45, and you don't want much progression before you would get agressive with early therapies.  See spine doctor often!
