No: The standard dose of Amoxicillin is 25-50 mg/kg/24 hours divided into three (every 8 hours) or 2 (every 12 hours) doses per day.  Your child is getting 1000 mg once a day.  He should be getting between 800 and 1600 mg per dose twice a day.  Perhaps the physician meant to write for 1,000 mg twice a day and the RX was mistyped.

Yes: It takes some time for a kid to come back from any infection.Was the strep verified by test? All strep A is killed by amoxicillin. There is always the possibility a co-infection with mono or other virus can amplify the symptoms and delay response.

Seems high: That dose is about 1400 mg per dose which translates into 90 mg/kg per day.  this is on the high end of treating resistant strep pneumo for otitis media.  Definitely not appropriate dose for strep or pneumonia
