: Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid are 2 antibiotics, and they are commonly combined.  And yes, they are the same 2 used in human and veterinary medicine.  However, they are generally given in different milligram strengths, and the milligrams needed per pound of body weight may differ for animals than for humans.

Yes: Amoxicillin plus clavulinic acid which is a beta lactamase inhibitor are combined in Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) to increase the spectrum of amoxicillin.   These drugs achieve high levels in urine and if the organism causing the UTI is sensitive to this drug combination it should be effective in treating the infection.

1. zinc supplement (NOW brand is good. 50 mg/day with food for 7-10 days)
2. Probiotics (Megafood Megaflora plus 4 caps daily for 1 week).

See your PCP if your symptoms don't improve in 2 days; sooner if worse.

Where is  the bump ?: Apparently it was a small abscess. Was the abscess coming from your tooth (endodontic) or your gum (periodontic)? Your periodontist diagnosed your condition based on a physical exam of the area with a radiograph. Trust the judgement, and give it three weeks to see how it goes. Can't possibly agree or disagree with your periodontist without clinical info.

Canesten and amoxi: You can use both at the same time. If you have a yeast infection now you want to use the canestin. If you need to take the amoxicillin if will aggrevate the yeast infection so you will also need to use the canesten after you finish with the antibiotics depending on your infections. Eating yogurt with the active lactobacillus helps or the lactobacillus pills.

Clindamycin: Clindamycin ( cleocin) is the recommended alternative ( especially in penicillin sensitive individuals) for dental procedures. Anywhere from 150 mg -300 mg 4 times a day. This drug hits anaerobic bacteria better that amoxicillin. Although, to be clear, Amoxicillin in the doses you describe is satisfactory for most adults.
