is febrex plus syrup good for infant(4-5 month old) to get rid of cold?

Accepted Answer

No: Colds are caused by viruses. Colds have no cure and are self limiting. Aim is to make the infant / child comfortable. Febrex plus syrup has paracetamol(safe) an antihistamine called chlorpheniramine( not safe)  and an oral nasal decongestant phenylephrine(not safe). This combination shd be avoided in infants and children. Can cause dryness, sedation, irritability at times and high BP.

Not recommended. : That is not a medicine that is widely used in pediatrics. I would be uncomfortable using it in a young baby.

Depends on weight: If a throat culture was performed and the baby has strep, Amoxicillin can treat it. The dosage would be calculated based on the baby's weight.

Likely normal: I believe that you're referring to hard little lumps behind the baby's nipples. If this is the case, it is common for infants to have a slight swelling of the mammary tissue behind the nipples. This is caused by response to hormones in the baby's body. Especially for infants who are breast-feeding, the maternal hormones can cause this response. They may also be different sizes; this is common.

Get baby evaluated: Any history of recent trauma?Did the baby bump her head at some point in the past 24 hrs?  How is the baby acting?Any vomiting?Given the baby's young age and that fact that their is swelling on her head and without more specifics I feel you should have her evaluated immediately in the ED.

YES: Tea is good if baby is having lbm. You can add it  to diarrhea diet.

Wash Your hands!: Virus can be spread cariable lebgths depending on virus.  Usually caused by rsv.  Typically, once fever and wheezing are gone they are less likely to be contagious.  Make sure to use good hand hygeien and wash hands frequently as well to prevent spread.

when do babies generally start to laugh?

Laughing and babblin: Your son is doing just fine!  Babbling responsively is the beginnings of verbal communication and probably more important than laughing.  The deliciousness that is a baby's laugh is not far behind.  It can be hard to wait.

Doutful: Children under the age of 12 months are at risk for Botulism is they eat honey (especially raw honey) because their digestive systems can't hand the spores. About 20 percent of  botulism cases involve honey or corn syrup.

i took my 5 month old to the dr. today. one hand is noticeably swollen. he believes it is from my infant sucking on his hand. is that possible?

Possibly: I would expect mild swelling of the hand if your infant is sucking on his hand constantly, but tenderness, redness and significant swelling would be uncommon and other causes should be considered.
