my husband is 6' 10" tall and weighs in excess of 350 pounds. the 10 mg dosage of ambien (zolpidem) does not work for him. can he take more due to size/weight?

Sleep study yet?: I would first want to know if he has had a sleep study.  Given his size, he is at risk for sleep apnea and this should be evaluated.  If you notice snoring or irregular breathing at night then the likelihood is even higher that he has it.  It can lead to poor sleep quality, fatigue, etc.  Ambien (zolpidem) may make it worse.  If he has no sleep apnea, then there are other agents for sleep that could be tried.

i've been taking two ambien (zolpidem) cr at night instead of one because i got used to dosage. is this safe? could it kill me? i know others do it.

Not safe : You should not overdose on any medication including ambidn . If the maximum recommended dose is not effective then it should be changed and something else should be tried.

doc gave me 5mg ambien (zolpidem) (30 pills) in sept. since then ive taken 16 pills total cutting it into 1/4 to 1/2 of dosage. is this small amount addicting?

Each : Medication is different so I would talk to your doctor and try the new medicine to see which one works best for you.  So it will be trial of each.  Adjusting the dose as needed

Unsafe: your history and oversose on ambien (zolpidem) are both bad for sleep tablets used with a pt with OSA.  seek medical attention as it suggests on the label as well as a better discussion of your med history and med issues with your past and future ambien (zolpidem) prescribers

Too many sedatives: Without knowing the exact regimen my best comment is to note that care must be taken when using multiple medications with sedative effects.  I assume the Ambien is for sleep and the Xanax (alprazolam) is for anxiety.  I would argue both are short-term interventions and she will be best served if alternative approaches are explored.  The only thing I can say with certainty is that she should NOT drink alcohol!

Results vary..: Ambien (zolpidem) is a sleep medication designed to provide you with uninterrupted sleep for about 8 hrs. There can be unwanted and even dangerous side effects. Sleep walking. Sleep eating sleep driving. 
If you are tryiing to trip on Ambien (zolpidem) and use it for purposes other than to treat insomnia the results are not predictable. An overdose of Ambien (zolpidem) with or without other drugs may be your last trip.

Just one . . .: You only need to take one too many pills to overdose. Heck, it's dangerous if you take even just one pill that's not prescribed for you. So don't do it! If you think you need more or something different, then ask your prescribing doc.

Ambien (zolpidem): No, but if not effective then need to ask doctor for different medication for sleep as Ambien (zolpidem) is short acting

Ambien/Ativan OD?: Not sure what the dosages are, but watch for confusion, dizziness, and in any case, contact her doctor for advise.
