Temazepam ; Desyrel (trazodone): Temazepam and trazodone (desyrel) remain excellent options if you need long=term medicinal insomnia treatment. You can also try cbti, psychotherapy to teach you how to fall asleep without medication. There are also plenty of sleep apps noted on this site and can be helpful and look up one of dr. Heidi fowler's excellent sleep hygiene responses on this site. Best wishes.

Anxiety or stress: You may have underlying anxiety as well and sleeping pills alone dont always work if thoughts and worries are keeping you awake. Dont take extra Ambien (zolpidem) but do see your doctor and see what else can be tried as lack of a good nights sleep effects all of your health. We need a good nights sleep. This is important.

No: Both ambien and Xanax (alprazolam) can precipitate depression. With headaches and depression I think you need to get things sorted out (There are medications that will prevent headaches, help with sleep and manage depression.

i've taken 25mg promothazine an hour ago - i feel very awake still so i took 5mg ambien (zolpidem) & another 25mg promo.. if this doesn't work what to do?

Another Ambien (zolpidem) 5 mg.: Both medications help you sleep. You can take another 5 mg. Of ambien, (zolpidem) lie down and try counting sheep. You're very anxious which prevents you from sleeping. Seriously, drink a glass of warm milk, go to bed, turn of the lights, listen to soft music and just relax. You are trying too hard to fall asleep.

Other medications: Using Ambien (zolpidem) non-stop for that long would be expected to not work after awhile, because tolerance has likely developed.  Ask your doctor about other possible medications that might pertain to your own case.  I'm not sure if your sleep disturbance has been fully evaluated, as to why you need a medication like that for such an extended period?  A sleep medicine doc and/ or psychiatrist could help.

i have been taking dalmane (flurazempam) 30mg for 30+ years but the pharmacies and manufacturers seem to have quit making the drug. do i go to outside the us to get the drug or is there a substitute that make work as well for me. ambien doesn't help?

: Flurazepam is a benzodiazepine. They've abandoned it because it's long-acting and leaves a hangover compared to other sleeping pills. Probably the closest equivalent to 30 mg of flurazepam would be 10 mg of Valium (diazepam) though equivalent doses of benzodiazepines are not as predictable as many other classes of drugs.

Zolpidem (ambien): Ambien is extremely habit forming SE include Dizziness, Headache, Drowsiness, Hallucinations, Memory disorder, Muscle pains, Flu like symptoms. Can have full blown Allergic Rxn. Extremely dangerous if taken with Pain meds, Valium, Soma, alcohol, Antidepressants. Can all cause you to stop breathing especially during sleep, and you snore, you are over weight, you have asthma/COPD  Try  MELATONIN SL

No: Ask your dr first. Do not add sleeping agents without asking your prescribing dr.

accidentally took ambien cr this morning. can't believe it. how do i handle a mistake like this safely? can i try to stay awake for work?

Accepted Answer

The best thing to do: is not to drive anywhere or to handle dangerous equipment until  sedation has worn off. These things can happen - just need to keep yourself safe  until you are more awake.
