Unfortunately, no: While there are no cures for als, there is one medication (rilutek) that has been shown to slow the course of the disease. There are also many treatments that can help to manage the symptoms and complications of als.  I highly recommend enrolling in a multidisciplinary ALS clinic to make sure you are receiving optimum care.

Not enough: Research isin progress. Much success depends on resources Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neuromuscular disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord. There is no cure and the average life span after diagnosis is 2-5 years. ALS takes away the ability to move, speak, swallow, and ultimately breathe, and it can strike anyone. Better supportive measures have increased somewhat life span.

Can't predict.: These things take loads of money, research and time to impact.   All these diseases are major, so for now, treatment is palliative, educational, and where available, progress-slowing (LOTS of Tx for this)--but not cures.   Meanwhile, get some support, through groups or therapy and keep an eye on the research journals for each disease.

Muscle weakness: Als or lou gherig's disease affects the nerve cells that control muscles (motor neurons). Degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to increasing muscle weakness, involving the arms and legs and later the breathing muscles, speech and swallowing. Unfortunately, there is no cure for als. One drug (riluzole) is available but it only slows down the disease for a short time (months).

Years : There have been some some new medications that have been developed to slow the disease process but researchers still are unclear what the genetic basis for the disease is.  As such the possibility for a cure islikely years away.  Sorry.

No: Als is a progressive neuromuscular disorder.  Only the motor neurons and muscles are affected.  The sensory nerves remain intact, so the patient can feel pain, but the disease itself does not cause pain.
