my 5 year daughter.rhinitis allergy ige level 1874?is thr any blood test to know what is causing allergy? can it be brought down by medicines?

Accepted Answer

Allergic: It simply means she carries a very elevated level of the allergic antibody and predisposes her to allergies and the allergic diathesis more than someone with a normal or lower level. No reason to give meds to lower the level, simply treat the symptoms if she has allergies, asthma, eczema, etc...

i'm diagnosed w/ dust allergy, ige levels: 949/100, but i suspect of histamine intolerance too b/c i have the symptoms too. possible to suffer both?

"Histamine: Intolerance: is a POORLY UNDERSTOOD phenomenon and I would rely upon your allergist's opinion as to whether it's an "issue" with you!

No: What are the symptoms? Successful therapy depends mostly on this.

Accepted Answer

Maybe: Allergy is from a skewed immune reaction to otherwise innocuous substances- usually a protein.  People with allergic asthma are  more susceptible to respiratory infections for this reason.  Allergy does not usually cause body aches although sleep disruption from your allergic conditions may cause body aches and fatigue.  Uncontrolled asthma can cause fatigue. See an allergist.

Eczema, asthma, etc.: In clinical practice allergic rhinitis, eczema and asthma are the most common reasons for elevated ige. Parasitic infections can cause an increase in ige, and it can also be elevated in certain immune deficiencies, such as hyper-ige syndrome.  Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is a rare cause.

my son (4) had an ige level of 1400 (high) what could cause this? he does have eczema and had a few environmental and good allergies.

Consider testing: The ige level that was measured is considered to be extremely high. If your son has pulmonary symptoms, a chest radiograph may be ordered by your physician to document structural changes in the airways.
There is a condition called abpa which afffects about 10% of asthmatics and CF patients. Airway fungal sensitization can be measured and tests ordered to detect reactions to fungi as well.

my 6 yr old son has ige level of 3090 but has only shown a mild case of hives 4 times in the last 4 yrs. is allergy shots only solution?

Not the solution: Allergy injections are indicated for the treatment of environmental allergies, asthma triggered by allergies and severe stinging insect allergies.  Hives are not treated with allergy injections, but instead by antihistamines.  The ige level by itself doesn't need to be "treated."   shots are not the solution.

Accepted Answer

Just watch: Elevated IgE level of 200 is most likely not worrisome. This can occur in any type of allergy, especially in a child with eczema (atopic dermatitis), asthma or seasonal allergies. If test for parasites all negative, I would just watch it, maybe repeat level in one year from now. 200 is not that high.

It's possible: An elevated IgE level is most commonly linked to allergies, whether environmental or otherwise. Environmental allergies could lead to pharyngitis, as that is a common allergy-related symptom. GERD can also cause a painful throat, due to chronic acid exposure. In either case, chronic damage can lead to the presence of blood and/or mucous. Of course large amounts of blood are abnormal.

Why??: is this test result causing you "tension"..It just shows your allergic potential in your lungs, skin, and mucous membranes and is an objective finding to measure the possible severity of your allergy..(It can also measure the effectiveness of treatment...especially the new forms of allergy medications ("biologicals")
