need to know if you get nasal swelling from picking nose?

Possibly: If you are having problems with excessive crusting, you should address this rather than constantly picking the nose.  I recommend something called ponaris oil.  It is hard to find but very effective.  In my practice, I have seen cases where the person has picked a hole through the septum, so be careful.

Cellulitis: Cellulitis is soft tissue infection. Go see your family doc to see if you have an infection of your nose and are in need of antibiotics. In meantime, warm compresses are good if you think you have an infection while cold compresses (or ice packs) are good for injuries. What is pws (http://en.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/pws)? No good reason to start smoking again. It's time to quit (again). Good luck!

: Nasal swelling can occur from inflammation and vascular disturbance.  Chronic use of topical corticosteroids can cause atrophy and thinning of the skin but is not a cause of swelling.  You should limit the use of this product and seek a dermatologist if you have a chronic problem in the facial skin.

i have lingering nasal stuffiness and swelling following a head cold (3 weeks after onset of cold). very dry stuffy nose. my dr. recommended fluticanose nasal spray to reduce nasal swelling. is this an appropriate use of this product?

Yes: Some people do experience reactions to nasal steroid sprays such as rhinitis, mucosal swelling and even angioedema.

If standing stops it: then what you have is a buildup of mucus in the nose and it is fine when it drains.  Sleep propped up on several pillows, drink more than the usual amount of liquids, and stop taking antihistamines if you were taking them for the ear so the mucus stays loose and can drain.

Nasal steroids.: Rhinocort aqua, or budesonide, is an intranasal steroid that is the best studied and safest intranasal steroid medication in pregnancy.  It has minimal side effects and may help with congestion unlike any oral medication or over-the-counter addictive nasal spray.  Discuss this option with your doctor.

Several wks/ months: I often tell my patients they should be able to notice a significant difference in the first couple of weeks. Rarely I do have patients that need several months to improve. After 3 months if there is no significant improvement, I would re-evaluate the anatomy in case there was something else (i.e sinusitis that's was contributing to the the situation)

Not really: Menopause is common. Sinus problems are common. It makes sense that many people with suffer from both.
