Shoulder issue: You may have rotator cuff problem (complete vs. Partial tear) or tendinitis of some muscles in the shoulder (biceps, for example) or sometimes it may be an overuse. It may not be a bad idea to see a doc to rule things out.

Several causes: There are several causes for the upper arm to ache near the shoulder. The most common are a tendonitis or a bursitis. If condition is worsening or is severe then see your doctor as soon as possible.

Shoulder trouble: Shoulder trouble can be tricky to evaluate. It is a surprisingly complex joint. You should see your doc for a thorough examination, which will likely include x-rays and/or an MRI scan. They may wish to refer you to an orthopedist who specializes in shoulders.

Agree- rotator cuff tendonitis, impingement, osteolysis are most common. See a shoulder surgeon.

Shoulder ache: At your age I don't think you have arthritis of the shoulder, but tendonitis is a definite possibility unless you can recall a specific shoulder injury causing a sprain. I recommend trying a week of anti-inflammatory medication like Advil or Aleve. If symptoms persist consult an orthopedic specialist for evaluation and treatment.

off and on for months my left shoulder hurts then it stops and days later my  arm will ache not my whole arm just in the middle. what could this be?
