Not labor: If you are not dilating, you are not in labor. You really don't want to be in labor at 36 weeks anyway. If you are dehydrated, you will have contractions. They don't so anything but they can be pretty painful. So, if you are having contractions, you should assume you are dehydrated. Lay down and drink lots of water. Real labor won't stop.

Cervical change: 3 cm dilation and 80% effacement is significant and there is a risk of labor at any time.  Every additional day that you carry your baby is beneficial to the baby.  It would be best for your baby is you did not deliver before 40 weeks.  You should limit activity as much as possible and see your doctor frequently.  If your water breaks prior to starting labor pains, go to the hospital immediately.

You're getting ready: to deliver!  You're in the home stretch, that's for sure.  I presume your birthing classes have taught you that the cervix will dilate to 10 cm and thin (efface) considerably before delivery. The pain could simply be a pelvic structure that is being compressed when the baby moves. Review your birthing plan and get ready for the ride of a lifetime! Very good wishes!

Ask your OB: If u are 36 weeks 7 days that means u are 37 weeks, your OB may or may not want you to be doing anything, you are term , but sometimes the lungs are not all the way mature at 37 weeks, so your OB may want you to wait unless you naturally go into labor or get srom, I am sure your OB can strip your membranes at 38 weeks and that should put u into labor if you are already 4 cm.

The limited information you've provided is not necessarily a sign of impending delivery but could be depending on how quickly things are changing. No worries: Your cervix is open but you are not effaced. The average cervix is 4 cm. The cervix needs to thin out to 100% (which is very thin) so it can open up further to allow the baby to come trough. If you are dilated but not at all effaced there is no worries you will have a baby soon! also, if you start effacing and laboring we would not stop your labor at this point!
