: It is called a sub-mucosal uterine fibroid which sits immediately under the endometrium. These types of fibroids can cause extensive and heavy arterial bleeding at the time of the period or in between the periods. If those are your symptoms your MD has found the cause and should be offering you some advise.

Not usually: A 2 cm fibroid is very small in the grand scheme of things (less than an inch, smaller than a grape).  While it may cause bleeding and increased cramping if it is present within the cavity of the uterus, if it is in the wall it probably will cause no symptoms at all.   There must be another explanation for your menstrual pain.

Minimal: A 2 centimeter cyst has a volume less than 5 cubic centimeters.  When compared to the average uterine volume of about 60 to 80 cubic centimeters, a 2 centimeter fibroid would not result in a significant increase in the size of the uterus.  However, over time a fibroid can result in a dramatic change in the size of a uterus due to its continual growth.

Irregular bleeding is  one of the most common problems Obgyns treat.: If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections &  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  there are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Unlikely problem: This is not a big fibroid, but given that you having been trying to conceive for 2 years, you need to pursue help.  This should include an hsg (hysterosalpingogram) to assess the tubes and make sure that your husband has had a semen analysis.

Fibroids &amp; pregnancy: Uterine fibroids can interfere in initial conception, cause early miscarriage  as well as premature labor if you get that far in the pregnancy. Fibroids can be treated with ablation or removal(myomectomy) prior to conception. Myomectomy allows future conception and possible vaginal delivery options in the presence of labor. There is still a risk of uterine rupture if not repaired well.

what could be causing a stitch type feeling in my lower left belly that radiates towards my hip and back? i have had an ultrasound and all that was found there was a 2cm fibroid. should i request an mri? it has been constant for over a year now?

: This cannot be properly evaluated without a detailed history and exam, but we can be confident that the fibroid is not the problem. It is also reassuring that it apparently has not changed for over a year. Further evaluation might require an MRI but other tests could be more pertinent. Please consult your doctor.

Probably not;hopeful: The fibroids' location in the anterior wall of the uterus makes it less likely that it is causing  any blockage of the tube or causing infertility. Fibroids are thought to account for only 5% of infertility cases. A test called an hsg that radiology can do, would be able to determine if the tubes are blocked. Many issues to discuss with your dr. Re: effects of a fibroid that large in pregnancy.
