Avoid contact: Even if a woman has had chicken pox, she should avoid exposure to that virus when pregnant.  She should not be the one taking care of the sick child.

dear dr. my 2 1/2 year old daughter has had all her vaccinations however has still come down with a case of the measles. my 2 month old has caught it. what can i do? i'm so worried.

See your doc: The kid can be given an immunoglobulin injection to prevent the disease. Unfortunately only 85% are protected with the 1st dose of the MMR and a second brings that to ~95%. When there are cases in the region it is important to remain vigilant &amp; do all that we can to stop this terrible disease. If you were vaccinated or had measles, baby may have some resistance, but still needs more.

Worry: In good hands this is a simple and effective procedure with many health benefits to the kid.The main drawback that i see if the anxiety involved with having your kid go to sleep for the procedure & wondering if you made the right call. I don't see any downside to the kids health or development.

my baby is 8 month old nd has infected by rota virus once. i missed the rota vaccination schedule now wt can i do ? is there any alternative ?

Rota virus  vaccine : There is 2 kinds of rota virus vaccine one is given in 2 doses at 2 &amp; 4 mos of age  &amp; the other in 3 doses to be completed before  6 mos of age, your child missed the chance  to get  the vaccine but unfortunately  there in no other vaccine for older children, hopefully he mi  get some immunity from the previous infection  that he had.  Try to keep up with the rest of his immunizations. Good luck.

my 4 month old has pertussis, and is vaccinated. how many injections are needed to be fully covered? i have a 2 year old at home i want to be safe.

Fully ?: Pertussis infection is a matter of exposure intensity up against level of protection. With at least one shot, weeks before, the risk of dying as 4mo can do drop to near zero, completing the series helps but anyone at any age can still get it regardless of shot status. A 2yo vaccinated kid is not at big risk but the whole household would commonly be treated with meds.

at my 21/2 year old creche there are 2 cases of confirmed german measles. i don't feel comfortable taking my daughter there, do i get worried or do i get her vaccinated again for rubella.

Already exposed: All children in that center should be considered exposed. They should have proof of immunity, be immunized immediately or excluded from that center for 21 days after the onset of rash from the last known case. If they develop rubella they are not contagious after 7 days from rash onset.

Absolutely: This scheduled is based upon sound research on efficacy and safety. It is under constant scrutiny and reevalution.The opponents of this seem to ignore the known facts and base their points of view on supposition and questions unsupported by what we know. And because of this children are getting hurt.Is it perfect.No. But it is better than anything else, including dr sears' stuff.
