ACTH stimulation test

Share

Link copied

The acth stimulation test evaluate whether the adrenal gland can respond to stimulation from the pituitary gland by giving an artificial form of the pituitary hormone (acth) and measuring the adrenal gland hormone (cortisol) before and after the injection. Normally the cortisol level will rise after the injection; in most instances failure to do so indicates a problem with the adrenal gland.
