Infection of the back of the eye
"infection in the back of the eye" probably refers to a bacterial infection internally within the eye, as opposed to an external infection such as "pink eye". This is also known as enophthalmitis. It can happen after penetrating eye trauma, after eye surgery, or even spread from infection within the body through the blood. Treatment is with internally injected antibiotics and sometimes surgery.
