Floaters may be : Either linear or circular or both. Their physical location and size and shape in large part determine the effects that they have in a person. It is always best to have the eye examined when there are new floaters since retinal tears frequently occur at the same time. If there is a tear in the retina, it may progress to a detachment without treatment.
