Is alcohol related erectile dysfunction reversable?

2 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

It depends: Upon how much alcohol and for how long. Try limiting or discontinuing the alcohol intake for a period of time, and see if things improve. If not, see your doctor. There are many other mental and physical causes of erectile dysfunction that may need to be evaluated. Your life will probably improve in many ways without the alcohol.

Possibly: Erectile dysfunction (ed) due to alcoholism is the result of alcohol-induced nerve damage. Alcohol is a total-body poison that especially affects the GI tract and nervous system. Most alcoholics smoke, which damages your arteries, which can also cause ed. Ed due to smoking warns you're at risk for a heart attack. Often, alcoholic nerve damage improves with prolonged abstinence: weeks to months.
