Depends: If you have a uterus and use Estring (estradiol) then yes, you need Progesterone to prevent development of uterine cancer, or precancerous changes of the endometrium (uterine lining) . But depending on what type of symptoms you have, Progesterone may be helpful, even if you don't have a uterus.

Switch treatment: Progesterone treatment for myoma is controversial. There is some evidence that Progesterone may actually even stimulate fibroid growth, contrary to anecdotal reports of treatment benefit by some clinicians. Ask your doctor about other treatments. Drugs that stop your ovaries from making estrogen & Progesterone have been shown to shrink, but not eradicate fibroids, for as long as you take them.

Multiple actions : The Progesterone works mainly by thickening the mucous at the cervix to kill and block sperm. It also slows the movement of the fallopian tube and thins the lining of the uterine cavity.
