Needs to be seen!: It is not so uncommon for a general ob/gyn to find moles or areas of skin pigmentation in the vaginal area on routine exams. While in most cases it is probably a benign finding, they might represent areas of 'dysplasia' or precancerous changes caused by hpv virus. The area should be examined and biopsied by an ob/gyn. Yes and no: It's not common, but it does happen. They deserve extra attention because they are rare. Your doctor may want to take a biopsy. Sometimes moles could be melanoma (i know, seems strange given that those places don't see the sun very often). Bottom line, have a dermatologist take a look, always better safe!
