Not true.: No scientists i know have ever said that. This is patently false. No one knows the cause of alzheimer's and there are no known health consequences of masturbation.

Evidence conflicts: There have been numerous studies on this topic and the jury is still out. If it does, it accumulates very slowly over many decades before having an effect. If there was a strong relationship, it is unlikely the data would be so conflicting.

A 21-year-old member asked:

I care foran alzheimer's patient who tends to wander off and gets lost. What can I do?

A common problem: This is both common and difficult. The answer for any one person may be unique to them. The safest thing is to have 24/7 awake care. This can be impossible in a home setting. Make sure the person has an id bracelet on so that if they do get lost, someone can help return them to home. One can install alarms on the doors and windows. Call a local support group or your doctor for suggestions.
A 45-year-old member asked:

What are alternative ways to relieve sexual desire besides masturbation?

1 doctor answer2 doctors weighed in
Dr. Pamela Pappas
Psychiatry 42 years experience
The most obvious: The most obvious way to relieve sexual desire besides masturbation, is to have sex with a willing partner. Sometimes sexual desire can become compulsive though, relating more to obsessive anxiety than to genuine sexual desire. If you're wondering about your own situation, consulting with your family physician or a psychiatrist may help.
A 29-year-old member asked:

Dr. Carla Enriquez

No: Masturbation is a normal animal activity. There are no health reasons to masturbate or not to masturbate. It doesn't make you more or less manly.
