A member asked:

General question: if during pregnancy a std/hiv/hpv/etc is contracted, for example via sexual intercourse, can these affect the baby?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on the STD. Syphilis is one that can cause fetal loss or congenital syphilis with long term problems. Similar issues with untreated HIV. Localized outlet infections like gonorrhea can infect baby passing rough the birth canal. HSV & HPV genital wart strains can infect baby delivered during an outbreak.
