A member asked:

Is it normal to have stools that are a little soft, kind of similar to soft serve, with some brown mucus attached to them? also is it normal to have to poop 2-3 times in the morning? what is a normal consistency for stools to be?

There are many normal variations in stool color, consistency, and frequency. Yours may be normal for you. Most concerning would be blood, black, or pure white. Your stools sound like they are softer than average and maybe more frequent. I would look at what you're eating especially in the morning or late at night. If you can't come up with anything in that review, please discuss with your doctor.

There is a wide range of normal patterns and consistency of stool. Everything that you described can be normal for some people. I would recommend that you try to increase your fiber initially, and drink plenty of fluids. If you continue to have changes in your bowel habits, you should talk to your doctor or a gastroenterologist. Good luck.
